Kozo Suganuma's profile (biography)


Kozo Suganuma was born in Osaka, Japan and started to play drums at the age of eight.  
He became a professional drummer at the age of fifteen and has done many studio recording, concerts tours and sessions.
The Kozo Suganuma Drum Dojo is located at six places in Japan which Kozo operates.
He continues to release a wide variety of techniques, how to books and instructional DVDs for drums and percussion.
 
He passionately works as a clinician and has participated in drum and jazz festivals and clinics across Japan and in many other countries.
Kozo has worked with top drummers such as David Garibaldi, Billy Cobham, Dave Weckl, Sonny Emory, Steve Jordan, Gerald "Jerry" Brown, Simon Phillips, Benny Greb, Tommy Igoe, Peter Erskine, RUSS MILLER and many more.
 
In 2014, He performed at one of the world's biggest jazz festivals "Montreux Jazz Festival2014" in Switzerland.
In 2014, He performed at the drummers festival in Beijing, "Drums Summit 2014". 
Kozo has performed at the Asian Biggest Band Contest, "ASIAN BEAT", as well as been the judge three times.
 
Artists he has supported are CHAGE&ASKA, Junichi Inagaki, Shizuka Kudo, Tetsurou Oda, LOUDNESS, TOSHI (X JAPAN), ROLLY, Shinji Tanimura, Gackt, HIDEKI (SIAM SHADE), LIV MOON, Koji KIkkawa, Acid Black Cherry, DREAMS COME TRUE and many more.
 
He has released four solo albums.
Musicians that have participated in those albums are SCOTT KINSEY (TRIBAL TECH), Lincoln Goines, BOB MALACH, Billy Sheehan, Akira Takasaki, Koichi Yabori, MASAKI, Jeremy Cloake, Makoto Aoyagi, Toshimi Nagai, Kazuhiko Michishita, Thomas Lang and many more.
 
He is known as "TE-KAZ-OH" which means the king of many strokes because of his unique style of playing such as speed strokes, odd time play and trick play.
